We have now, recorded all of our footage, and have now begun to put together all of our clips, cutting them down, and editing them in the right positions.
We had a successful day in the studio, recording most of our footage in front of the green screen.
We also then, went to the next location, on the same day, which was my house, to record some more scenes.
Our last location was Corporation park, where we recorded the last of our footage!

#205 Lists (Props/Costumes/Casting shots/Location Shots.)
Props
Location shots
Balloons are used infront of the green screen which will have different choices of colours in the video where the artist will be performing his verses.
To help the artist do so, we wrote each verse on the board for every shoot.
The HD Video Camera used to film the green screen.
Notice the costume change from the previous image to this. We will use this accordingly to create the split screen effect.
- Sony HD 1080p Video Recorder (used for filming the green screen scenes)
- Tripod
- Balloons - Used in the video with the green screen scenes and also in the album artwork.

| This image shows the close up shot of our artist's mouth performing the song. |
To make it easier for Darren to sing all of the song in one take, we decided it would be a good idea to write the lyrics down on a white board, to place behind the camera, so he could read them while we were shooting.

#204 List of equipment/technology/software we will need
To create over video, various amounts of software and skill is essential. We will be using the following:
- An HD Video Recorder. - Recording in HD is vital if we want a sharp, clear resolution when filming green screen scenes, or any scene for that matter.
- Tripod - To hold the camera in place, allowing us to navigate the camera from left to right, up and down, giving the camera stability and a non-shakey picture.
- A high resolution/HD Camera - This will be used to take pictures of the video shoot used in the latter posts for evidence and analysis.
- Final Cut Express - Video Editing Software. Probably one of the best video editing softwares available, which gives us the choice to create split screen images, composite images, giving us a professional looking video in the end.
- Adobe Photoshop - Picture Editing Software, which will be used to enhance the pictures to create a quality album artwork and also to create the artists logo.
- Blogger.com - Blogging site to upload every piece of work we do in preparation of making the video and onwards.
#202 The song (Copyright evidence, annotation)
The song choice, as mentioned previously, is by UK Rapper/Singer Example with his song "Kickstarts". A Soundcloud embed of the song is below:
The lyrics:
(1st Verse)
You want me to come over I got an excuse
Might be holding your hand but im holding it loose
Go to talk then we choke its like our necks in a noose
Avoid the obvious we should be facing the truth
Start to think it could be fizzling out
Kinda shocked because I never really had any doubts
Look into your eyes imagine life with out ya
(Chorus)
And the love kick starts again
Starts again
The Love kick starts again
Starts again
(2nd Verse - Rap)
Its the same old you the same old me
You get bored and I get cold feet
Get high get wandering eyes
Forget ive never ever had it so sweet
I realise what I got when Im out of town
Cos deep down youre my girl in a golden crown
My princess and I dont wanna let you down
No I Dont wanna let you down down down down
(Outro)
And the love kick starts again
Starts again
Song/Video Structure
The first verse until the chorus will consist of establishing the artist and the video's narrative through the green screen shot (white background, different colours throughout). The split screen transition will immediately go into play as we now have a happy side to the story and a bad.
The chorus will then be footage from the green screen, whether it's the artist performing or him/the love interest and the extras dancing. The split screen feature will be used to have 3 different body parts from 3 different people and the use of changing costume of the artist will be effective as we can have composite images or single frames of the different costumes the artist has worn.
A similar pattern will follow throughout the video until the end, where we then see the love interest walk upto the artist (who was sat on the bench, reminiscing on their relationship and give him a hug.
Fade to black - the end.
Permission?
When requesting permission to use the song for our video, we did not get a response from the record label Ministry of Sound. A screenshot of our page detailing the request is below:
#201 Synopsis
This is a brief description/overall outline of our video idea:
Locations:
The first shot, is going to be a over the shoulder shot, of Darren, our artist, sat on a park bench.
It will then flick to a long shot from the front of the bench, and then to a close up of Darren's face from the side, before flicking back to the over shoulder shot.
In Darren's hand there will be a few photographs (blank of course). Later on in the editing stage, we are going to edit the footage so that the image on the photo, will be some of our footage.
From the over the shoulder shot, we will slowly zoom into the photo, and the music will start, fading in, until the image on the photograph, becomes the main video playing.
The next part of the video, will be all in split screen, and recorded at my boyfriends house/barn converison in Darwen.
On the left side of the split screen, the scene will show Amber and Darren, as a happy couple, and on the right, playing at the same time, will show them as an unhappy couple (showing the rollercoaster relationship).
In the first verse before we get to the chorus, it will be all split screen, and showing these shots, of them for example:
On the happy side:
- A long shot of them in the kicthen co-operating.
- A medium shot from behind, of them watching a movie together.
- Simple long shot of them hugging, spending time together on the sofa.
- A close up of their hands held tight together.
On the unhappy side:
- A long shot of them on different sides of the kicthen, doing seperate things.
- Again, a medium shot of them behind, but sat apart.
- A long shot of them sat on the sofa, with not very happy/impressed looks on their faces.
- Another close up of their hands, but letting go.
ect.
We also, in the other verse's want to show some live action singing shots of Darren (from the studio).
After the first verse, the chorus will kick in
(And the love kick starts again
Starts again
The Love kick starts again
Starts again)
This part of the song, is the most upbeat, with alot of beats and oppurtunitues to cut shots to the beat (to make the video more visually interesting).
This part of the video, we are going to be filming completly in the green screen room/studio we have at college. We are going to be using split screen again for this bit, but instead of having 2 sides, and a split down the middle vertically, we are going to have 3 different bits, going diagonal.
During the chorus, we are going to have Darren and Amber, dancing in front of the green screen.
We are going to have them do at like 6 or 7 takes, to ensure there is ALOT of movement and alot of different dance moves.
We are then going to, since we are using the 3 split screens, mix and match them up to the beat, changing them as the beat changes. We are also going to use different bright/flashy colours in the background (on the green screen), again, changing as the beay changes.
The video will end, where the video started, at the bench in the park (sort of like book ends for a video).
The clip at the start, showed Darren on the bench, sort of reminicing over photos from a past relationship. This makes the viewer believe, that maybe him and his girlfriend, have since broken up. But then, the video itself, shows a rollercoaster relationship.
This wills still make the viewer believe that they are still broken up,
but, the chorus of 'And the love kick starts again', and the last scene, answer the question of 'Are they still together', as in the last scene, we are going to shoot at long shot of darren, still sat on the bench looking at the photos, but this time, smiling. Then Amber will come into the shot, sit down next to him, and kiss him on the cheek.
The camera will then slowly pan up very slowly to the sky, and the video will end.
Locations:
- A house (living room and kicthen) in Darwen.
- The studio/green screen room we have in college.
- Corporation Park.
- Amber 'lightning' Phillips - Amber will be playing Darren's girlfriend/ex girlfriend, in the video.
- Darren 'papa' Gregson - Darren is our artist, and the main singer.

The video is going to start without music, for just a few seconds (something like 10-15 seconds). Our first location we're going to be shooting at, is a park near our college called 'Corporation Park'.
The first shot, is going to be a over the shoulder shot, of Darren, our artist, sat on a park bench.

#201 - Introduction to planning
We have now, completed all our research, and feel like we have enough knowledge, about what our video could be like, what editing techniques we could use, and who are audience is going to be.
It was definitly important to do as much reseach as possible, before we start contructing our plan, and story board for our video, because now we have a solid foundation of research, that we can learn from, and if needed look back on everything we've done, to help us move forward in our video's process.
We can now, after gathering all our information we productivly plan out video using our knowledge of other artists videos, and based on what our audience would like.

#119 What institution would make this video in real life?
Considering our artist is influenced by real life artist Example, a singer/rapper, who is signed by major label Ministry of Sound, we believe our artist would also be signed by a major label. Dance music is one of most popular genre in the charts right now just as much as Hip-Hop/Rap is and signing our artist would be good competition with record labels.
Artists that have reflected off in creating our own artist include Calvin Harris, Example, Chipmunk.
Calvin Harris is signed with Columbia Records (owned by Sony Music Entertainment)
Chipmunk is signed with Jive Records (owned by Sony Music Entertainment)
Music videos created by Major labels and Indie often have similar looks, but major labels have the bigger budget which evidently reflects on the location of the shoot, the props and the costumes. However, it is argued Indie music videos focus more on the new wave aspect, creating something going against the typical codes and conventions of a music video, using a lot of special effects which we will consider when creating our own video, because we're trying to have that crossover from Indie to Major and vice versa, we want our video to have that major label feel but still keeping in mind our target audience still consists of Indie fans too, seeing as all these artists were once signed with Indie record labels.

#118 How will what we've learnt about branding, be reflected in our work?
With the research and analysis of artists and their branding, we hope to create our artist as the outspoken, music passionate, positive thinking and open minded artist and this is important for us because this is what the public eye will view this person has, whether they know him personally or not, because it is the image that is being forced down the people's throats when they see him on MTV, interviews, music videos, award shows. But then it is vital the person himself has a word in how he should be viewed as which he can do so, through his music - the growth as the artist experiments with new sounds, becomes better at songwriting and so on.
The type of music he creates will be reflecting on the way he looks on camera, his costume, his stance and his attitude towards everything.
