After thinking about what we want to do, we came up with some initial ideas for songs we would choose, and the way we would approach the style of video (in terms of shots, pace, and editing).
After thinking about it, we came up with a few song choices.
These were:
1) Example - Kickstarts
2) The Script - The man who can't be moved
3) Ed Sheeran - A Team
(Not only did we like the songs we chose, but we also liked the way they were filmed, ect).
We wanted to approach the video with excessive camera shots and angles such as extra close ups to handheld to point of view shots, simply giving it the new wave sort of edge by bending most rules and inputing our young, creative minds rather than following the norm by taking the best out of each music video and put it into one. So, in one video, we liked the use of split screen. The use of which hopefully would make the viewer know that they're not just watching another 'MTV like' music video.
Other influences on our Music Video includes: Jay Z's "On To The Next One", Gym Class Heroes's "Stereohearts" and Wiley's "Numbers In Action".
Things we thought about including in our music video:
- Split screen (like in Examples video 'Kickstarts', and Semisonics video 'Closing Time').
- Where the shots cut to the beat (as the beat changes, the image on screen changes).
- Each shot, the lyrics and music accompanies the sound (Like in Lil Wayne's video for '6 foot 7 foot').
In this picture, the artist says "I beat the beat up, call it self defense", which is play on words and the picture accompanies this. The whole video is based on this format.
- Color grading (Like in Fun, 'Walking the dog')
- Green screen (like in Madonna's video for 'Ray of light')
- Composite Images - Where the idea that the same person is appearing more than once, at the same time, doing different things. (Wiley's "Numbers in Action")
- The use of shadows (like in Gym Class Heros video 'Stereo Hearts')
- The use of text, and scrolling text.
After thinking more about what song we were going to use in our music video, we came to the conclusion that the best choice would be Example's 'Kickstarts'. Not only is it a popular song and very catchy, but due to the fast pace and editing techniques already used in the actual video, we can adapt that, to make our own unique video for the song.
You refer to 'excessive camera angles' and 'new wave edge' - these may need a little explaining - what type of camerawork do you mean?
ReplyDeleteThe Lil Wayne section - there is a word missing - 'the accompanies the sound'
Sorting these out will help make your ideas crystal clear!
